Alleged lover Deena Castleman to testify at Baumgartner trial

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - 6 News is getting a first look at the prosecutor's case against Ex-Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner in his upcoming federal trial.

Prosecutors filed notice that they plan to have testimony from Baumgartner's alleged lover, Deena Castleman, plus phone records and seized drugs.

The U.S. Attorney's Office plans to establish that several people were involved in a conspiracy which supplied Baumgartner with pills.

The judge, who admitted an addiction to prescription painkillers, is accused of concealing and not reporting a felony.

Meanwhile, the court has ruled that attorneys can tell the jury that Baumgartner was a sitting judge, but they cannot mention the Christian-Newsom murder trial or the high-profile nature of that case.

The trial is set to begin Oct. 23.
