KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Twenty-seven employees at Physicians Regional Medical Center are losing their jobs, the hospital said Thursday.
The hospital, formerly known as St. Mary's Hospital, is owned by Tennova.
A Tennova spokesperson says the decision was made after evaluating hospital services and "keeping the challenging economic times in mind."
In a statement released Thursday, the hospital said help will be provided for employees who were laid off.
"Our human resources department is committed to assisting those colleagues with exploring other opportunities within the Tennova Healthcare family or connecting with local resources during their transition," the statement said.
About 130 employees were laid off about a year ago, shortly after Tennova took over ownership of Mercy Health Partners and Health Management Associates, Inc.
