KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Peyton Manning paid a visit to the University of Tennessee campus Friday to dedicate the road named in his honor.

Hundreds of students anxiously waited to see one of UT's most famous alums live and in person.

"The fact that they renamed the street in my name, the fact that these seniors have made it look just like the end zones, it really is special. It's a very humbling honor for me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart," Manning told students and fans during the ceremony.

Peyton Manning Pass was named after the former UT quarterback 14 years ago and Manning's visit marked the debut of a new look for the thoroughfare.

The road, which connects Phillip Fulmer Blvd. with Volunteer Blvd., was recently repainted with checkerboards at either end as well as a Power T.

The road surface is meant to mimic the look of Shields-Watkins field and will add some panache to the Vol Walk at UT home games.

Chancellor Jimmy Cheek and UT donors also took part in the ceremony.

During his visit to Knoxville, Manning will also be honored Saturday night before the UT-Alabama game, along with Phillip Fulmer and other members of the 1997 SEC Championship team.
