ETOWAH (WATE) - The Etowah City Council voted three to two to ban pit bulls Monday.

The ordinance was written shortly after an Etowah woman complained to the city saying she was fearful a neighbor's pit bull would attack and injure her children.

The ordinance does allow current owners to keep their dogs. However, those owners are now required to register their dog with the city and muzzle them in public.

Violation of the ordinance would result in the dogs being seized and removed from the city.
