SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A man involved in a fiery crash that killed two people returning from a church retreat last month is now in jail facing burglary charges.
Tyler Schaeffer was driving the SUV investigators say crossed the center line and hit the van just south of Seymour.
Schaeffer had been recovering at UT Medical from injuries he received in the wreck.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Sevier County Jail on an aggravated burglary charge.
Schaeffer was released on probation in April on separate convictions for attempted robbery and burglary in Blount County.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, narcotics were found inside Schaeffer's wrecked Chevy Blazer after colliding with the church van. Charges against him were said to be pending, but so far have not been filed.
Jeff Trussell, 45, a youth pastor Cedar Grove Baptist Church, and Courteney Kaliszewski, 16, died in the wreck on Chapman Highway, near Zion Hill Church Road.
