Preseason: Vols and Lady Vols tabbed as 4th best in SEC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WATE) - The Vols and Lady Vols basketball teams share common ground heading into the 2012-13 season.

Both teams have been picked to finish fourth in the SEC by members of the media.

The Tennessee men finished behind Kentucky, Florida and Missouri and just ahead of Arkansas.

Alabama was picked to finish sixth, followed by Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas &M and Vanderbilt.

LSU, Auburn, South Carolina and Mississippi State round out the conference predictions.

Kentucky was the clear favorite to win the conference title. The Wildcats picked up 17 first place votes.

Tennessee placed two players on the preseason All-SEC team. 

Jarnell Stokes was named to the First Team squad.

Jeronne Maymon was named to the Second Team.

The Lady Vols were also picked to finish fourth in the SEC by members of the media.

Tennessee lost five senior starting players last year and the program is also adjusting to the recent departure of former head coach Pat Summitt.

Kentucky was picked to win the conference, followed by Georgia and Vanderbilt.

Texas A&M was picked to finish fifth, followed by LSU, South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida and Auburn.

Mississippi State was 11th, followed by Ole Miss, Missouri and Alabama.

There were no Lady Vols named to the preseason All-SEC First Team.

Junior guard Meighan Simmons was named to the All-SEC Second Team.
