KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Halloween has yet to pass, but the City of Knoxville in the Christmas Spirits. Officials announced the 'Christmas in the City' schedule Wednesday.

There are about 100 events to choose from this year, the newest event being the window decorating contest between the downtown businesses. People can cast their vote online on the city's website. This year's theme is "A Knoxville Christmas Carol."

The City of Knoxville Special Events office has probably been in the holiday spirit longer than anyone.

"Our Special Events office of three start planning in May for the 100 or so different events that are going on during the holiday season, so it's a big job for them," said Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero.

Among those events are many favorites.

"We'll continue our Comcast Christmas at Chilhowee Park, the Regal Celebration of Lights, the WIVK Christmas Parade and our Holiday on Ice, so lots of different things going on," Rogero said.

Even though it is still warm outside, it's time to start making holiday plans.

"Knoxville is a community of wonderful people who like to get together and celebrate," Rogero said. This gives us an opportunity to come downtown, or go to Chilhowee park, or go to the other locations of our events, and come together as a community and celebrate the holidays."

The ice rink opens the day after Thanksgiving. That's also the night of the lighting of the city's main Christmas tree in Downtown Knoxville.
