KODAK (WATE) - A Sevier County couple was arrested early Thursday in connection with multiple burglaries at area convenience stores.

Several stores were burglarized on Tuesday, Oct. 23 and a suspect in a purple Chrysler PT Cruiser was spotted on security cameras.

Then on Thursday morning just after 3:00 a.m., a burglar alarm was set off at the Pizza Plus on West Dumplin Valley Road and the Sevier County Sheriff's Office put out an alert for the PT Cruiser.

A short time after, the Knox County Sheriff's Office received a call about a burglar alarm at a convenience store on Asheville Highway.

The responding officer said he saw a vehicle fitting the description of the PT Cruiser leaving the scene.

The officer followed the suspect and eventually caught up with the car on Highway 11E in Jefferson County.

Curtis Lawson, 31, and Fantasia Smith, 25, both of Pigeon Forge, were inside the car and were arrested at the scene.

The Sevier County Sheriff's Office has charged the pair with five counts of burglary for the stores in Sevier County.

Both are being held at the Knox County Jail.

The investigation is continuing and officials said more charges may be filed.
