KNOXVILLE (WATE) - TDOT said they are working on utility relocation along State Route 62-- the Western Avenue project.
Back in February 2011 the utilities were removed, so now crews are putting new power polls up along Western Avenue. TDOT said this will continue over the winter months and into the early spring.
"Whenever you're building a road on old alignment like that and widening it, you know, there's all those utilities that have to be relocated," said Steve Borden, TDOT Reg. 1 Director. "That's pretty tedious work because we're trying to put all those in a real confined space. They have to be synchronized so they are not in each others' way."
Work will continue on the new bridge along Western Avenue.
TDOT added that once all the utilities are taken care of, the bulk of the widening will take place. This should happen in the spring and into the early summer.
