Sevierville woman dies from injuries in car crash, driver being charged


SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - One woman died and two others were injured in a two-car accident near Sevierville on Oct. 20.

Cale L. Faircloth, 28, of Sevierville, was driving his 1995 Ford Ranger southbound on Newport Highway. Glenn S. Matthews, 55, of Sevierville, was driving his 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup truck northbound on Newport Highway.

Faircloth attempted to turn left onto Fairgarden Road but failed to yield to Matthews. The two cars collided.

Matthews' vehicle overturned off the road and came to a final rest on its top. Faircloth's car came to a final rest in the roadway,

Faircloth fled the scene, but then surrendered himself to the Sevier County Jail on Oct. 21.

Glenn Matthews' passenger, Wilma D. Matthews, 70, of Sevierville, died from her injuries in the accident on Friday at UT Medical Center.

Faircloth is being charged for vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render and give information and failure to provide immediate notice of an accident.
