KNOXVILLE (WATE)- Local Red Cross volunteers have deployed to Ashburn, Virginia, to help with the Hurricane Sandy relief effort.
The group left Saturday afternoon.
Volunteers say once they get to Virginia they will be delivering supplies, handing out hot meals to those who need food, and relaying information about the storm.
In addition to this group, other volunteers from the Knoxville area have been sent to New York and Maryland.
One volunteer said he loves helping in any way he can, "Our adrenaline gets going, and we get anxious to go help the folks," said Marty Gensheimer. "We've done it before, and we know how much everybody appreciates it,"
Another local group flew to New York Saturday to join a relief group there waiting to be sent to a hard-hit area.
