KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Another loss for the Tennessee Volunteers doesn't have fans giving up hope just yet. While the team is still looking for its first SEC victory of the season, fans are looking for ways to improve the team.
"I have really mixed emotions with Dooley. I think he's a great representation for the University of Tennessee, but you know, he's had three years to make us a better team, and he hasn't pulled through, so I think it's time to move on to a new coach," explained Vols fan Abbey Spearman.
Most people we spoke with on the deserted Cumberland Strip after the game weren't concerned with replacing Head Coach Derek Dooley. "I've got to give it to Dooley. One, on the orange pants. You've got to rock the orange pants. Two, he's on crutches and almost got nailed by a player and that was intense," said fan Austin Stepp.
"If we keep replacing coaches, we're going to stay on the same record. We're not going to win at all. So I mean as long as we have Dooley, we can pull it out," reasoned Cole Williamson.
Some fans say they would cut quarterback Tyler Bray. "I think anyone would be a better situation. It doesn't look like Bray cares, and I think that's what a lot of Vol fans really look at and that is the reason why they don't like him," offered UT junior Dudley Johnson.
Meanwhile, others thought Bray played better this week. "As far as Tennessee's concerned, we looked better, Bray looked better, in my opinion, than he ever has," said Stepp.
"I thought we fought hard and Tyler Bray actually looked like he cared for once. Not saying he hasn't before, but it looked like he put his effort in the whole game instead of kind of giving up like he's shown in the past. For instance the Florida game, something like that," added junior Jacob Hamblen.
Apart from certain players and coaches, most fans we spoke with said they were pleasantly surprised by the close score of the game.
"Our season's been a little heartbreaking, we've had our ups and downs, but the game today, it really brought back a lot of Vols enthusiasm until the very end which is really sad, but it was a good game, nothing to complain about," concluded Vols fan Kate McBrien.
While not all Vols fans agree on whether or not the team headed in the right direction, they can all agree they'd like to see an SEC win.
