KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man was killed Saturday after he was shot during an attempted robbery.

According to reports, three men entered the Discount Tobacco store on Magnolia Avenue just before 5:30 p.m. Two of the men had handguns.

Because of a language barrier with the cashier, they left without any money or merchandise.

The suspects fired one round at the cashier, missing the worker. A second shot was fired at Parvez Ahmed, 48, of Bangladesh, who was stocking the store's coolers.

Ahmed was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the suspect who fired his weapon is a black male who was wearing a black jacket with Jack Daniels on the back of it.  The suspect has 6 to 8 inch braids or dreads.

Anyone with information on these suspects is asked to contact the Knoxville Police Department's crime information line at 865-215-7212.  Callers can remain anonymous.
