KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A Knoxville woman and her family said it was terrifying to be in the middle of Hurricane Sandy.

They sailed through the storm during their Disney cruise. In video taken by Powell resident Jennifer Chambers and her family, the cruise ship can be seen rocking from side to side.

There is also terrified passengers scrambling for cover.

"It was bad. It was really bad. I was not ready for that," Chambers said, describing the experience.

"We were right here in the middle of the hurricane," Chambers said, showing on a map how close they were to the eye of the storm.

With waves higher than 30 feet in the Atlantic Ocean, they spent about eight hours being violently tossed around by then Hurricane Sandy.

"We were sitting and watching the pool, and all of a sudden all the water in the pool comes out and washes us to the side of the boat," Chambers said.

The family clung on, not knowing what would happen next. In the morning, passengers were in a mad dash to get off the boat.

"It was very, very scary," Chambers said

Later, Disney Cruise Lines sent her a letter offering a 25 percent discount on a future cruise. Chambers says she will not be availing of the offer.

"No, I don't think I'll ever be going on another cruise," Chambers said.
