2 dogs stolen from shelter recovered

JOHNSON CITY (AP) - Officials at Washington County's animal shelter say two dogs stolen from the facility have been recovered and adopted.

The Johnson City Press reports Maisie, a Chihuahua mix, and Mabis, a Yorkie, were found Thursday by officials and both have been adopted.

Police said 54-year-old Cathy Poole admitted to taking the dogs "because she could not afford to pay the (adoption) fees." She and her daughter, 24-year-old Sara Poole, both of Jonesborough, were each cited on one theft charge.

One of the dogs was adopted out hours after returning to the shelter. The other was adopted the next morning.
