Brush fire breaks out on Bluff Mountain, residents allowed to return home

SEVIERVILLE (WATE)- Dozens of families were evacuated from their homes after a fast moving brush fire erupted on Bluff Mountain, but they were allowed to return at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Sevier County Sheriff's Office told 6 News they were going door to door telling residents to evacuate their homes along Bluff Mountain.

The streets affected were East End, Tower Road, and Top Road, and there are only about 40 homes in the area.

Crews put up road blocks at the intersection of Bluff Mountain Road and Black Bear Lane.

Officials said winds gusts may have reached up to 50mph where the fire is at the top part of the mountain.

The brush fire broke out around 7:30p.m. on the Seymour side of the mountain.

There has been no report of injuries.

The Pigeon Forge Fire Dept. said the fire was contained around 11:15p.m.
