KNOXVILLE (WATE) - After a sluggish start, the Tennessee basketball team took control and beat Victory University of Memphis 99-57 in their only preseason game of the year.
Redshirt freshman Quinton Chievous and Jordan McRae each scored 15 points while freshman guard Armani Moore added 11 points and Kenny Hall added 10 more in the Tennessee effort.
Victory center Keron Jackson led the Eagles with 14 points and 11 rebound.
"We got the (win)," said head coach Cuonzo Martin after the game.
"Obviously, there's always work to do and we haven't even played a game yet and these guys have to get familiar with each other so it's good to get a game under your belts, so to speak, under the lights and we go from there."
Tennessee trailed 14-8 after Jackson hit a three point shot, but McRae, Yemi Makanjoula and Trea Golden his consecutive shots to give Tennessee a 17-14 lead.
Victory tied the game at 19, but the Vols went on an 11-2 run and ended the first half with a 38-26 lead.
"It's what you expect playing at Thompson-Boling Arena," said Golden, who finished with 8 points and 8 assists.
Everybody was nervous, Everybody was anxious to get out there but I think everybody did good though."
The Vols open the season Friday night (Nov. 9) when they host Kennesaw St.
