Blount, Campbell voters reject sales tax hike

MARYVILLE (WATE) - Voters in Blount and Campbell counties rejected proposals to increase their sales tax.

Blount County commissioners voted in September to allow the referendum on the ballot, which would have increased the sales tax from 9.25 percent to 9.75 percent.

The referendum would have matched the half-cent sales tax increase approved by Alcoa voters in the August 9 primary, which was approved to a new proposed high school in the city.

Campbell County voters rejected by a margin of greater than 2-1 a proposal in increase their sales tax.
