FAIRFIELD GLADE (WATE) - The death of a Cumberland County woman is being investigated as a murder.
The body of Kimberly Batty, 58, was found in her Crossville home Wednesday afternoon in the Fairfield Glade retirement community.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said it was obvious when they arrived on the scene that it Batty's death was not an accident or self-inflicted, nor was it of natural causes.
Chief Investigator Casey Cox said they have been following leads and have identified some persons of interest in the case.
Batty had only lived in the neighborhood a short time and lived in the house on Dovenshire Road alone.
Most of her neighbors said they didn't know her all that well, but said she had always been friendly and waved as she drove by.
Now that Batty's death is being investigated as a homicide, she said she's checking her locks twice.
"I'm praying for her family and I'm hoping we find out soon what happened to her," said neighbor Linda Drury. "It will ease my mind a lot. I hope it wasn't a stranger, because if he was, then that just makes me want to stay in the house more."
Investigators tell us there were no visible clues of robbery or theft that took place, but there were signs of a struggle.
The sheriff's office said they will be investigating continuously until the case is resolved.
The autopsy results are not yet back from the state, but investigators hope to know more within a few days.
