Armed man arrested for resisting officers in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man was arrested Sunday afternoon after he allegedly became combative with police officers.

Police were called around 12:45 p.m. to the Dollar General Store at Western Avenue and Middlebrook Pike on a report of a man with a gun.

When the officers approached Barry Evans, 46, of Knoxville, he allegedly resisted as they attempted to frisk him.

When a handgun was found on Evans he fled. Officer subdued him a short distance later at College Street and Moses Avenue.

Evans was taken to Ft. Sanders hospital to be checked out before being booked on several charges in the Knox County Detention Center.

Among the charges filed against Evans are two counts of assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest and unlawful possession of a weapon.
