MEMPHIS (AP) - A bald eagle that was found shot in the wing in West Tennessee has died.

According to WMC-TV, a doctor who had been treating the bird posted an online message over the weekend that the eagle had died.

The eagle, which had been dubbed "Abe," was found injured earlier this month in Hardeman County. It was recently moved to the Raptor Center at Shelby Farms where it was scheduled for rehabilitation.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said the eagle was found Nov. 5 along Highway 125 near Silerton. Initially, it appeared the eagle had a good chance of survival, but officials said it could never be released into the wild again.

A reward fund is up to $7,500 for information leading to conviction of whoever shot it.
