KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An area family buffet is back on the list of restaurants with an unsanitary health inspection grade.

It's been more than two years since the restaurant received a grade under 70, which is considered unsanitary by the health department.

But recently, it scored more than a dozen violations when the inspector visited.

Lowest score:

Great American Steak and Buffet, 900 Merchants Drive - Grade: 64

The inspector watched a man at the dishwasher load dirty dishes and then, without washing his hands, he unloaded clean dishes.

In the walk-in cooler, the temperature of pork and meatloaf were not at 41 degrees as required to kill the growth of bacteria.

When the inspector checked, the thermometer in the cooler was broken.

Several dented cans of food were found in the storage room. Dents can potentially contaminate the contents.

The inspector writes the walk-in cooler was dirty, the dishwasher was dirty, and the ice machine was dirty.

Other low scores:

Kichi Sushi and Noodles Stand, West Town Mall - Grade: 71

The grade is a passing one, but there are critical violations.

Eggs were found sitting out at room temperature. They were immediately thrown away because of the potential for contamination.

Until sold, the eggs should have been kept cool at 41 degrees or less.

The inspector watched a kitchen worker with a Band-aid on his finger prepare raw chicken, but he wasn't wearing gloves.

Also, hand soap was found stored next to raw chicken, which would have tasted odd if accidentally the soap had gotten mixed into the chicken before it was cooked.

Top scores:

  • The Lunch Box Market and Café, 1225 East Weisgarber Road - Grade: 100
  • The Casual Pint, 234 Brookview Center Way - Grade: 100
  • Savory and Sweet Food Truck - Grade: 100
  • Gavino's Pizzeria, 5211 Kingston Pike - Grade: 99
  • Brewskies Too, 3846 Martin Mill Pike - Grade: 99
  • Menchies, 234 Brookview Center Way - Grade: 99
  • Five Guys Burgers, 234 Brookview Center Way - Grade: 98
  • Romano's Macaroni Grill, 7723 Kingston Pike - Grade: 97
  • The Chop House, 7417 Chapman Highway - Grade: 97
  • Taco Bell, 7215 Strawberry Plains Pike - Grade: 97
  • The Underground, 123 Central Street - Grade: 97

Don't forget health reports are supposed to be posted where you can find them.
