Welcome week eight! Only two more weeks to go, and with that comes a double elimination Tuesday night. If the pressure wasn't on before, it is now.

Last week our dancers gave some stand-up performances and literally got some "stand up" or standing ovations. With the swing dance "dance-off" ending the night, we saw Melissa and Tony atop the leaderboard with their combined skills.

That brings us in to tonight's performances, where Melissa thought the only place to go from the top was down, but that girl was dead WRONG. Up up and away, that's where their scores took them last night, setting the standards to an entirely new level, and separating them from the rest of the competition.

With a special Veterans Day tribute, each couple gave a "brief," to put it lightly, dance that was to show their respect for our military heroes. With that being said, I can't bring myself to knock any of those performances, because although they weren't technically that great, their cause and dedication was beyond amazing.

With that being said, my girl Melissa who I wrote about earlier had one of the best performances in the tribute category, with her quickstep demonstrating both "quick" and a lot of "steps" as the judges so eloquently put it. If you haven't noticed by now, she got my vote for this evening's performances and I don't doubt we will see her in the semifinals.

Coming back from a couple weeks' hiatus were Kelly and Val! I finally saw that spark return in Kelly, and she gave two amazing performances tonight. Again, we can't miss the obvious fact of their steamy chemical romance oozing between them. But rather than find it nauseating I seem to find it adorable and intriguing. They by far have the reputation for best wardrobe this season, and should be consulted on by other celebrities when it comes to their attire and theatrics.

Once we got past the agreed upon excellence of Melissa though, my opinions seem to drastically differ from the judges on the rest of the celebrities. Kelly and Val should have easily topped out with 30s, but instead received a measly 28 for their veterans tribute dance, and a 28.5 for their jive. Hello? Were we watching the same program?

On those thoughts, I can't believe the judges gave Apollo and Karina such high scores! Could we not have gotten him a real Kevlar vest for the performance rather than a tuxedo vest with numerous belts? Those muscles of his were by far strong enough to withstand a one minute performance toting real body armor! I love to watch Apollo move shake and dance, but I thought it wouldn't have hurt for his dance to have begun, and ended with the zip line across the stage.

Denied of their awesomeness? Shawn and Derek. Their Viennese Waltz should have been given 10s across the board. She was graceful, looked as if she was floating across the floor, they were in time with the music, and their dance was flawless.

And Len, you only gave them a 7 for their tribal samba? Were we watching the same show? This dance just brought Dancing With the Stars to an entire new level, and if more dances like this were incorporated, I think the viewing audience was triple! Adding Mark to the mix, this dance was high energy, fast moves, amazing stunts and choreography, and had to be my favorite of this entire season so far.

Surprisingly, another couple I think missed the correct scoreboard boat was Kirstie and Maks. Girlfriend has improved drastically as each week goes on, and she owned the dance floor in both her Viennese Waltz and her pasa doble. She was ON FIRE! This time we got to see both her spunky personality and her progress shine through. I was thoroughly impressed with her as we head to final two weeks.

And lastly, this weeks "lost in the mix" goes to Emmitt and Gilles. Neither dance stood out for me, and while they are both easy on the eyes to watch, they seem to have topped off with their ability a few weeks ago. If they don't find a way to step it up and shine in their own spotlight, then they may be on the verge of heading home.

Only your votes can save them now, scoreboards and paddleboards give the judges opinions, but as you can tell the viewer can have some drastically different opinions of their favorites. So if you have someone you want to see stick around until the end, NOW is the time to vote. Text, call or Facebook for your favorite!

Until next time...
