KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Maryville and CAK are going back to Cookeville to defend state high school football titles, while Fulton and Webb are seeking a return to familiar championship status.
Maryville advanced to the Class 6A championship game with a 47-43 come-from-behind win over Siegel in Murfreesboro on Friday night.
The Rebels are seeking their third straight state title and their 11th title in the past fifteen years.
The 6A title game will feature two unbeaten teams. The Rebels (14-0) face Whitehaven (14-0) on Saturday in Cookeville.
Powell dropped a 32-27 heartbreaker to Columbia on Friday. The Panther were seeking a second straight trip to the Class 5A title game.
In Class 4A, Fulton clobbered unbeaten Giles County 41-27. The Falcons (12-2) have carved an interesting path to the title game, beating defending state champ Greeneville at home, and then rolling over Livingston Academy and Giles County on the road.
The Falcons have averaged 43.3 points per game in four playoff contests.
They face unbeaten Covington (14-0) on Saturday in Cookeville.
In Class 3A, the CAK Warriors won a 44-34 decision at Elizabethton. Charlie High connected with Davis Howell and Josh Smith for touchdowns as the Warriors (13-1) return to Cookeville to face Milan (12-2) on Friday.
In Class 1A, Coalfield (11-2) saw their season come to an end with a 39-15 loss at Gordonsville.
Webb will play for a Div II title on Thursday. The Spartans (10-1) had the week off and will face ECS for their third title in four years.
