Clinton man dies after being struck by train

CLINTON (WATE) - A Clinton man is killed after his vehicle was struck by a train.

Clinton Police say it happened just before 3:30 Saturday morning near the intersection of Clinch Avenue and Carden Farm Road.

Chris Vann, 39, was driving parallel to the tracks on Carden Road before his car broke down on the tracks. When officers arrived, they found Vann's car half a mile from the nearest intersection.

Police believe Vann accidentally drove off the road, down an embankment and ended up on the tracks.

It's unclear if Vann died from the car accident or from the impact of the Norfolk Southern train.

"This isn't a typical car versus train collision, therefore we are still investigating and questions left to be answered. Norfolk Southern has been very cooperative with our investigation and their support staff responded to the scene quickly," said Chief Rick Scarbrough.
