Lady Vols cruise to 4th straight win, beating Alcorn State, 90-37


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - The disastrous debut of the 20th ranked Lady Vols basketball team, has fueled four straight blowout wins, two against ranked opponents.  On Sunday afternoon they held no mercy versus Alcorn State, cruising to a 90-37 victory.

For the first time this season, all 11 Lady Vols made a bucket, six finished in double figures led by Meighan Simmons with 12, followed by five players with 10 points each.

The game marked the return of former Lady Vols standout Tonya Edwards, who is in her fifth year as head coach of Alcorn (0-4).  Edwards was the Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Final Four when the Lady Vols won their first title in 1987.

Tennessee (4-1) shot 55.7 percent for the game while Alcorn was limited to 22.6 percent from the floor. UT forced the Lady Braves into 34 turnovers, which the Lady Vols converted into 37 points.

Up next, the Lady Vols will host Middle Tennessee State Wednesday night, tip off set for 7 p.m.
