KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A section of Washington Pike in East Knoxville closed Monday morning after a tanker truck spilled a chemical onto the roadway.
The southbound lanes of the road were closed around 10:00 a.m. after the truck lost part of its liquid load.
The truck itself did not overturn, but the sodium hydroxide was released from a valve under the truck.
Because of cool weather conditions, emergency workers said the chemical did not pose a health risk to residents.
The Knoxville Fire Department responded to the call and reopened the southbound lanes by 12:30 p.m.
No injuries resulted from the spill.
