GREENBACK (WATE) - A Blount County sheriff's deputy was struck by a car Tuesday morning as he was responding to the scene of an accident.
Deputy
James Patty, 44, was not seriously injured, Blount County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Marian O'Briant said.
Patty was hit at U.S. 411 near Brick Mill Road around 6:45 a.m.
According to O'Briant, a driver failed to allow sufficient room for the officer on the side of the road, which is a violation of the move-over law.
The deputy was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was treated and released for a knee
injury.
The original accident
that Deputy Patty was assisting with occurred at around 6:13 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.
In that
accident, Robert Louis Lane, 49, of U.S. 411 South, was pulling out of his
driveway in a 2005 Dodge Ram when he pulled in the path of Dwayne Ray Myers,
50, of Dalton Street, Alcoa.
Myers was traveling south on U.S. 411 South in a
1989 Chevrolet pick-up truck.
Myers was also taken to UT Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. Lane refused
treatment at the scene.
Myers was not wearing a seatbelt.
Both accidents happened along this stretch of U.S. 411.
