KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Former Knox County Judge Richard Baumgartner's request for an acquittal and a new trial has been denied.

Baumgartner was convicted of six counts of misprision, or concealment, of a felony earlier this month.

He asked U.S. Magistrate Ronnie Greer to overrule the jury's guilty decision on those counts.

The former judge argued the proof presented against him was not conclusive enough to prove him guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

Baumgartner also said the federal offenses were not alleged in the indictment against him, essentially saying those charges are invalid.

He's scheduled to be sentenced on March 27.
