Woman struck by hit-and-run driver on UT campus


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A woman was struck and slightly injured Thursday morning by a driver who fled the scene.

Knoxville police say Scarlett Bowman, 19, of Hendersonville, was hit at about 9:20 a.m. as she was crossing Volunteer Boulevard at Melrose Place on the University of Tennessee campus. 

Bowman told police she was crossing in the crosswalk when she was struck by a gray pickup truck. 

The pickup truck continued after hitting Bowman. 

She was taken to UT Medical Center for possible minor injuries. 

Knoxville police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or knows something about the gray pickup truck to contact the crime information line at (865) 215-7212.  Callers do not have to leave their name.
