KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Several viewers have emailed the Street Wise tipline asking for an update to the improvement project at the intersection of Kingston Pike and Everett Road.

The project kicked off in October of 2011 with the goal is to make the area safer by adding a center turn lane along Kingston Pike at the intersection as well as a traffic signal.

The project also includes the installation of sidewalks, new curbs and gutters and the extension of a concrete bridge.

The total cost of the project is just over $2.2 million, which is paid for with local, state and federal money.

According to TDOT and the contractor, McKinnon Construction, the project is 72 percent complete.

Before work is complete, construction workers will put in bridge beams next month.

The bridge decking will be set by February. By March, the curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be completed.

In April, asphalt will be laid, and then in May new traffic signals will be installed before the project concludes.
