Deputies involved in Harlan County shooting


HARLAN, Ky. (WATE) - Deputies were involved in a shooting on Friday night in Harlan County, according to Kentucky State Police.

It happened around 11 p.m. on the 200 block of Meadow Drive.

The Harlan County Sheriff's Office was executing a search warrant on Joseph Edwards, 26, of Harlan. When officials tried to enter his apartment, Edwards began shooting at deputies through the door.

The deputies shot back at Edwards, who then surrendered. He was placed into custody without incident.

The HCSO called the KSP for assistance, and no one was injured during the incident.

Edwards was charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment in the first degree and more charges are pending.

The Harlan City Police Department also assisted.
