Remembrance Tree lighting planned for Friday

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Every year since 2009, large crowds have shown up at the City-County Building for the HOPE for Victims Christmas tree lighting.

The event memorializes victims of violent crime in East Tennessee.

6 News Anchor Lori Tucker is hosting the event again this year.

On Monday, she spoke with the event's organizer Joan Berry, who lost her daughter, Johnia, in December 2004.

The tree lighting will take place Friday, Dec. 7 at 5:00 p.m.

Anyone interested in hanging an ornament on the Remembrance Tree to remember a victim of homicide is welcome to attend.
