CROSSVILLE (WATE) - Health officials across Tennessee are giving away free flu shots after a spike in cases early in the flu season.
The Cumberland County Health Department held their first free flu shot clinic Wednesday, giving out 60 vaccines to residents.
State health officials say they have a large supply this year and want to get it out to the public as soon as possible.
Brandon Rutherford came to protect himself and his pregnant girlfriend.
"I feel like the house won't be likely to get sick now," he said.
He says the new price - free - was a big incentive.
"It's very helpful. I probably wouldn't have been able to pay for it," he said.
Cumberland County started in September with 3,000 doses. They have more than 1,000 left.
"We're just thankful that we have an abundance and that will keep people healthy," said Cumberland County Health Department Director Karen Roper.
If you haven't received a flu shot yet this year, call your local health department to find out their schedule for free flu vaccines.
