KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Since Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley was fired rumors have been flying about who will be selected as the next coach.

Fans have been in a constant state of curiosity, but many say the rumors, speculation and lack of a coach are starting to take a toll on their patience.

"I'm tired of it," Abby Durnett said. "You hear so many different options. It's a new name every day. I honestly don't pay attention anymore."

Wednesday afternoon it seemed the answer would come in the form of University of Louisville head coach Charlie Strong, but Thursday morning he announced he was staying at Louisville. He reportedly turned down a multi-million dollar offer from Tennessee.

With that announcement, the roller coaster of emotion for Volunteer fans continues.

"I really wanted it to be (Jon) Gruden, but he kind of bounced out," Maggie Cunningham said. "So after that, I was all for Strong."

That wish never came true, even though some fans thought Strong might be the perfect candidate.

"I thought he would have been a good fit," another fan, Bryant Harrang said. "He has a defensive mindset, and we have the offense down, but it seems like he's going to stay (at Louisville).

The biggest question on fans' minds now is who will Tennessee try to court next.

"I've heard Larry Fedora from North Carolina," Alex Taylor said. "Then of course Dave Hart can always go with a local Alabama guy like Kirby Smart."

Some fans even hope Gruden will come back into Athletics Director Hart's radar.

"I feel like they might be going after Gruden again," Zach Warnock said. "I would love Gruden to come here."
