KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Tee Martin says he will return to Los Angeles Tuesday to consider the possibility of joining new Tennessee football coach Butch Jones's staff.

"Things went good," Martin told WATE 6 Sports about a meeting he had Monday with Jones at the Tennessee football offices.

"I had an opportunity to meet the staff and there's a good feeling around the building," Martin said.

Martin says Jones offered a job "a few days ago."

"Him being familiar with me, and me being familiar with him and the rest of the staff as well," is how Martin described the meeting. "That's pretty much what it was all about."

"I think football-wise we know what that is all about and we know what Tennessee is all about and how I feel about Tennessee, and all the other things," he added. "We're just trying to get to know each other."

Martin quarterbacked Tennessee to a national title in 1998 with a win over Florida State in the first BCS National Championship game.

His 79-yard touchdown pass to Peerless Price was the signature play of the game and has been forever etched in UT football history books.

Martin guided Tennessee to another Fiesta Bowl appearance after the 1999 season and then played a few years in the NFL.

He started his coaching career at New Mexico in 2009.

Martin moved to Kentucky in 2010 and coached receivers there for two seasons before moving to Southern California in 2012.

While Martin didn't commit to joining the Vols, it's clear his ties to Tennessee will be a factor in his decision.

"Right, I'm here," he said. "It's about feeling. It's about doing things for the right reasons. I will make a sound decision based on those principals."

Martin said he is returning to Los Angeles and will discuss the job offer with his wife before making a decision.
