Fire breaks out in Fort Sanders apartment home


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A fire broke out at a home in the Fort Sanders neighborhood in downtown Knoxville on Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to a call of a light fixture smoking at an apartment on Clinch Avenue at 9:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived they found the fire had traveled into the ceiling, the floor of the apartment above, the walls and attic of the converted ten-unit apartment house.

All tenants had gotten out safely by the time firefighters arrived.

Firefighters gained access to the flames and had them under control at 9:56 a.m.

Fire damage was contained to the areas mentioned, with smoke damage throughout.

Clinch Ave. between 16th and 17th streets was blocked for several hours while crews searched for hot spots.

Fire investigators were on the scene to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
