Principal suspended, security officer removed from Blount Co. school

EAGLETON VILLAGE (WATE) - An elementary school principal was suspended and a school resource officer removed from a Blount County school.

Principal Debra Garren of Eagleton Elementary School was placed on leave with pay Wednesday while school officials conduct an investigation.

In addition, School Resource Officer Rick Baker was removed from the school.

School officials say the moves are related, but would not release any details about what lead to the decisions.

"Based on the internal investigation being conducted by Blount County Schools Director Rob Britt, it was in everyone's best interest to move School Resource Officer Rick Baker from Eagleton Elementary," said Blount County Sheriff James Berrong.

Blount County Schools is conducting the investigation.
