NEWPORT (WATE) - A Cocke County man and woman pleaded guilty to three counts each of felony murder and received life sentences in the May death of a Cocke County family.

Adam Edwards and Martha Shelton were accused of killing Terri Henderson, Sherman Ellison, and son, Riley, in Hartford on May 26. The family's bodies were found at the scene of their mobile home fire.

On Monday, both Edwards and Shelton pleaded guilty to three counts of felony murder.

Both had also been charged robbery, kidnapping, arson and child abuse, but those charges were dropped.

For every murder count, Edwards was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On each of Shelton's counts, she was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 51 years in prison. That would make her 81 after her release.

The Cocke County District Attorney had been seeking the death penalty for both Shelton and Edwards, prior to their guilty pleas.
