DANDRIDGE (WATE) - An accident involving two tractor-trailers shut down Interstate 40 in Jefferson County for several hours Tuesday morning.
Around 5:30 a.m., driver David Potter pulled his 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer over onto a shoulder near mile marker 416 because of a mechanical problem.
Potter told the Tennessee Highway Patrol that he had been working on the vehicle for about 20 minutes when he was struck by another tractor-trailer.
Driver James Iles was driving the 2002 Freightliner truck eastbound on I-40, straddling both the shoulder and the lane, when he struck Potter's truck in the rear.
Neither Iles nor Potter were injured in the wreck.
Potter was cited for failure to exercise due care. Iles was cited for failure to display a warning device.
Traffic was shut down on the interstate for several hours while crews
cleared the wreck. Motorists were diverted off of the highway at Exit
415 and reentered the road at Exit 424.
I-40 was reopened to traffic around 11 a.m.
