Knoxville middle schooler taken to hospital after stabbing

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Vine Middle School student was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a stabbing incident between students.

Two eighth graders were arguing in the stairwell of the school in between classes when the female stabbed the male in the lower back with a comb that had pointed metal ends, according to Knoxville police.

The male was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The female was taken to a juvenile detention facility where she was charged with assault.

According to the preliminary investigation, the two students had been involved in a squabble most of the day.

According to a news release, "the male told the female he was over their bickering and turned to walk away when he was stabbed in the back."

No other students were involved.
