KNOXVILLE (WATE) - New details have been released in the case of a Powell High School teacher who was placed on leave.

Head football coach and math teacher Derek Rang was placed on leave during an investigation into testing irregularities.

A Knox County Schools spokesperson said Rang was placed on administrative leave last week.

According to his personnel file, the investigation began after accusations that Rang left his classroom during an end of course exam.

No other instructors were in the room, which meant the students were unsupervised.

Rang claims he went to the bathroom and did not give any test information to the class.

The investigation is still ongoing.
