KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Knoxville mom and her two children are moving into a home of their own, thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
Annie Begovich and her two children, ages 11 and 6, got the keys to their new South Knoxville home.
Begovich volunteered with the nonprofit for the past year and half and took budget and home ownership classes in order to receive the home.
The kids knew they would get the keys to their new home soon, but were surprised to find out that Thursday was the day.
Begovich said the kids were initially disappointed about moving schools and away from friends, but they came around as construction on the house got closer to completion.
"At first, I guess the move process, they weren't too thrilled about it," she said. "But as the walls started coming up and paint on the wall, doors coming up, so they are excited."
Her daughter, Alanna, said she is already planning how to decorate her
new room. Though her mother vetoed her first paint color choice of lime
green, she is now considering a zebra-striped theme.
