KNOXVILLE (WATE) - With New Year's Eve right around the corner, a lot of people are lining up their final plans to celebrate safely.

For many, that often includes a designated driver or a taxi. But thanks to a Knoxville woman's business, New Year's Eve revelers have another option.

First things first the Scooter Guy is not a guy. The owner is Kathy Hawkins Mclain.

"We are a designated driver service. What we do is basically drive you and your car home," Mclain said.

She's not just the owner, but one of the drivers, too. When she acquired Zingo, the company used collapsible scooters, drove to customers and then they put the scooters in the trunk, while they drove the customer home.

Now, they still use them in marketing, but things have changed as the company has expanded.

"Things are different because we work as a team," she said. "Someone will drive your car and then someone will follow in a chase car."

They have six teams, that can usually handle four runs a night a piece. But the best way to reduce waits and assure you have a safe ride home is to call ahead.

"We also do personal drives, someone can hire us for the night. For instance, New Year's someone can hire us and it's a minimum of three hours and we will drive their car around and take them to the bars or different places they'd like to go."

Kathy says she is a single mother of three boys, and wanted to offer this service, based in Knoxville, because she knows it can help prevent accidents.

"I would say even if it's five a weekend, it's five less people to have an accident or hasn't killed someone," she said.

Scooter Guy has now expanded to a 70-mile radius from Knoxville, that includes Morristown and Gatlinburg.

If you would like to make a reservation call Kathy directly at 865-806-9086. More information on the service is available on their website.
