KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Black Friday may be the busiest day for merchandise going out, but the day after Christmas is the busiest day for merchandise coming back in.

It's also a day for stores to clear the shelves of all items left over from Christmas and that can mean huge sales. Some items up to 50 percent off and beyond.

For people like Alyssa Reed that means one thing.

"Shopping," said Alyssa. "All day."

But its not shopping for herself.

"Following my mom," said Alyssa. "Getting sales for next year's Christmas."

She says her mom is one of the best at finding a deal. That's come with years of practice.

Every year before the tree even comes down, Roxane Reed heads out the day after Christmas to begin next year's shopping.

"It's tradition," said Roxane. "Me and my three girls."

But it's a tradition that goes much deeper than sales. All the purchases the Reeds make go to help pull off another holiday tradition of theirs - bringing Christmas to the children at Head Start.

"It's a facility in Jefferson City where the children and preschoolers come and Santa Clause comes and the angels and we dress up and we take them gifts," said Roxane.

Roxane and her daughters will spend the day combing the clearance racks to make sure that tradition continues next year.

Several area stores opened their doors early and will be staying open later.  Both West Town Mall and Knoxville Center Mall will be open until 10 p.m.
