Man shot during drug deal gone bad in West Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man was shot Wednesday evening during a drug deal that turned into a robbery.

Victim Michael Fife, 29, of Maryville, admitted to Knoxville police that he was meeting with the suspects near West Town Mall to buy illegal narcotics.

Fife said they tried to rob him at gunpoint inside their car.

He said he grabbed the gun, but the suspect was able to regain control of the weapon and shot him once, grazing his thigh.

The suspects dropped Fife off near Papermill Road, where he called police just before 8 p.m.

He was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center with minor injuries.

Police are still looking for the suspects.
