Tennessee records 1000th roadway fatality for 2012

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The state of Tennessee reached a grim milestone on Thursday.

The number of deaths on Tennessee roadways reached the 1,000 mark.

The Tennessee Department of Safety says the 1,000th death was reported Wednesday.

At this time last year, there were 930 traffic deaths - seventy less than 2012.

At least 407 of those people were not wearing seat belts.

Fatal motorcycle accidents are also up 20 percent from 2011.

These number don't include traffic deaths from Thursday, including one that took the life of a 22-year-old man in East Knoxville.
