KNOXVILLE (WATE) - It's been five months since the Turkey Creek Public Market closed down, and local vendors who sold their products there found themselves without a place to make a living.
Just this month, a number of them finally got back in business.
They've started a new flea market in North Knoxville, and after months of uncertainty, these vendors were more than ready to start selling again.
Turkey Creek Public Market in Farragut was open less than a year, giving its more than 200 vendors a one week notice back in August that they were closing down.
Right then, Warren Biddle, along with several other Turkey Creek vendors, went looking for a new place.
"Fortunately the Lord opened this door, and I found this building," said Biddle.
Biddle bought the Old 84 Lumber Building on Clinton Highway, turning it into the Bargain Shoppers Mini Mall, leasing booths to his former coworkers.
"Opened here so that some of the vendors would have the opportunity to stay in Knoxville. Otherwise, the closest places were between Sevierville and Sweetwater," said Biddle.
After months of renovations, it opened to the public at the beginning of December.
Darrell Snyder, owner of Bladerunners, which sells knives, was without a location for the last several months.
"It's a lot of money to have boxed up and not be able to sell it to the public. You're just in a bind," said Snyder.
He was worried about making ends meet.
"By the grace of God that I was able to put back enough during the time I was working out at Turkey Creek to survive," said Snyder.
But now, his mind is at ease.
"Oh fantastic. It's a little slow, you know, getting started but we're getting the word out. There's a lot of potential here," said Snyder.
Customers are glad to have a new flea market on their side of Knoxville.
"Yea, it's very close and convenient. We live not too far away so it makes it nice and close and handy," said Kathy Jones of Knoxville.
The Bargain Shoppers Mini Mall is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It's located at 5713 Clinton Highway.
