KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Senior Judge Walter Kurtz announced he will be retiring.

The retirement is effective as of Dec. 31, 2012.

Judge Kurtz said he will remain as the presiding judge in the cases against Christian-Newsom defendants Lemaricus Davidson, Letalvis Cobbins and George Thomas.

Kurtz took over for the previous judge, Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood, after a court questioned his ability to stay neutral during the trials.
