Garage fire appears to be arson; firefighters investigating

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Arson investigators are trying to determine the cause of a garage fire that broke out Friday evening in Knoxville.

The fire started around 5:30 p.m. in a detached garage on the 1300 block of Vermont Avenue.

When firefighters arrived they found a loft-style garage fully engulfed in flames. They also found the renter of the home attempting to extinguish the flames with a bucket of water.

The resident told fire crews he was in the shower when he noticed the flames coming from the structure in his back yard.

Firefighters say there is no power to the structure and that the fire appears to be a set fire.

No injuries were reported and the exact cause is under investigation.
